Simple, Healthy Halloween Snacks: How to Avoid the Sugar Overload

If you’re a parent or live in a neighborhood full of children, Halloween can be overwhelming. Excited, sugar-dosed kids in costumes will soon run rampant on your street. Luckily, you don’t have to contribute to this sugar overload. We’ve compiled simple, healthy Halloween recipes to reduce your stress.

Here’s the recipes that we found, in order from simplest to most complex:

Jack o’ Lantern Cuties

To make these, you literally draw jack o’ lantern faces on clementines (or oranges). That’s it! Plus, two Cuties equates almost triple the daily recommendation of Vitamin C.

This three-ingredient recipe only involves bananas, mini chocolate chips and regular chocolate chips. Just cut a banana in half and decorate it. You could even forego one of the chocolate chip sizes and just have uniform eyes and mouths. If you want the Boonanas to stand upright, smear some peanut butter on the plate and stick the bananas on that.

Smiley Apples

Although this recipe calls for some sugary marshmallows, these Smiley Apples have more fiber and protein than your average candy bar. This makes them more filling and will ultimately reduce one’s caloric intake. Plus, these are a lot cuter and more creative than candy.

These Silly Apple Bites are less sugary than the aforementioned apple recipe, but they are going to take a little bit longer to make! If you want to cut down a little time, you can forego the homemade googly eyes, though. Even more, without the googly eyes, the apple bites have 40 calories with only 5 grams of sugar!

Halloween Deviled Eggs

Last but not least, these decorative deviled eggs will satiate everyone’s appetite. With six grams of protein, B Vitamins and essentially no sugar, these pumpkin deviled eggs will be a savory escape from sugary treats.
